These records mostly include the photographs and negatives taken by Rice News photographers, as well as digital image files and copies of individual newspapers.

The collection includes individual files for Rice related persons (faculty, students, alumni, staff, significant visitors), events, programs, traditions, campus artworks, organizations, buildings, and subjects. The formats include newsclippings, notes, correspondence, photographs, and other materials. The contents are donated by Rice community members and/or gathered by the Woodson Research Staff, and represent one of the most heavily used portions of the University Archives.

Correspondence, contracts, credit reports, and leases in this collection document the business of Houston, Texas based Merchants & Planters Oil Company, particularly during the last period of its existence, 1930 through 1941. This company was owned by William Marsh Rice and associated with Rice Institute after Mr. Rice's death.

The collection consists primarily of personal letters belonging to Carl R. Wischmeyer, amny of them exchanged between Wischmeyer and his wife Mary. There is also information about his career as a professor of electrical engineering at Rice University. This includes documents relating to patents acquired as well as an article written for the Texas Engineer.

This collection includes the pieces of a sterling silver dinner service, Kensington pattern by International Silver Co., including accompanying porcelain cups and bowls used by George and Esther Meyer Cohen and family starting in the 1920s. Following his death in 1971 and Esther's in 1978, the service was auctioned and purchased by the donors.

Scope and Contents

The records reflect the annual alumni events overseen by the Alumni Affairs office between the years of 1992 and 2012 and supervised by Jennifer Harding, Director of Reunion Programs and Special Events.

Abstract This scrapbook was created by James S. Waters’ wife Pauline Lackner Waters to document his time in service, both in training and on the battlefield. It includes memorabilia such as Waters’ Officer’s Record Book, Battle Insignia, Overseas Service Chevrons, documents recording his vaccination, and receipts from purchases made at the Ordnance Store. These records include architectural drawings, maps, posters, oversize manuscript materials, and photographs ranging in dates from 1840s-2010s. The majority of architectural drawings relate to Rice University. The collection also contains oversize material from other manuscript collections. Links to these finding aids are included.

Abstract The Lenard Gabert, Sr. Architectural Records, 1930-2002 contains over 250 drawings on a variety of paper types and sizes, reflecting the architectural style of the time. Older drawings are often on brown tracing paper, moving to sheaves of pre-marked white planning paper, with the more modern ones printed in bound packets.
