Abstract

This collection contains 242 astronomical photographic glass plates collected by Rice University's Dr. Reggie Dufour. The majority were taken at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in the Coquimbo Region of northern Chile. A small number of the plates were taken at the Kitt Peak National Observatory near Tucson Arizona.

Abstract Takao Doi, who received his doctorate from Rice, carried this cloth image of the Orion Nebula on the Unites States Space Shuttle Endeavour mission STS-123. The Endeavour launched at 2:28 a.m. March 11, 2008 from launch pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center, Florida. Doi was a mission specialist on that mission. Recordings include newscasts, interviews with rock, jazz and classical musicians, Rice Presidents’ State of the University speeches and recorded live music. Abstract

This collection contains ten boxes of material related to the history and operation of Ellington Field, also known as Ellington Air Force Base, near Houston, Texas. The majority of the records date from 1917-2007, and include historical research materials, photographs, books, microfilm, postcards, and memorabilia. The foundation of the collection was material assembled by historian Kathryn Black Morrow for the publication of a history of Ellington Field.
