Scope and Contents
Dealer description (Hozuki Books): A set of woodblock-printed matchbox-sized labels featuring portraits of the ten most highly acclaimed pupils of the famed poet Matsuo Bashō, together with examples of their poetry. The disciples are (left to right, top to bottom) Kikaku, Kyoroku, Yaba, Hokushi, Etsujin, Jōsō, Shiko, Ransetsu, Kyorai, and Sora. The portraits have been illustrated in a cute and simple, almost cartoonish, style. One envelope with a tipped-in woodblock-printed card + twenty woodblock-printed cards, complete. Very light browning to envelope and cards, creases to envelope. Ex-owner's train tickets also loose in envelope. Each card measures approximately 6 x 3.8 cm. Envelope measures 9.6 x 5.4 cm when folded.
