General
Section of steel bar stock, about 8" long, painted black. This item is accompanied by a note that reads "Lee - The steel section is heavy...you can imagine the total weight of each gate!, Paul, 8.25.12". It was also previously described as being a section of the rebuilt entrance 1 gate, and noted as having been a gift of Paul Sanders. Mr. Sanders was a Senior Project Manager and Planner for Rice University from 1995 to 2003. It is likely that this item is a construction sample of the material and finish to be used for building new entry gates for the campus' entrance No. 1. Given Mr. Sanders' tenure at Rice University, the dates noted for the item are inferred.
