Bronze medallion in relief. The front of the medallion consists of an image of William Marsh Rice as depicted in his statue and perimeter text reading "The John W. Gardner Award The Rice Institute." The back of the medalliion is featureless. This award is given to a graduate student with the best dissertation in the Social Sciences. There is no information regarding original owner or donor. Item is located in its original brown leather presentation box.
