Rice Institute Ralph Budd Award medallion, large, round, bronze. This award was established in 1935 by Ralph Budd, an early 20th century railroad executive, and is given annually for the best Ph.D. thesis in Engineering. The medallion's front is in relief and shows an image of the Mechanical Engineering building and campanile, and the text "The Ralph Budd Award The Rice Institute" around the perimeter. There is no information regarding original owner or donor. The item is located in its original brown leather presentation box.
