General

Metal (copper?) medallion, approx. 70 cm. (2-3/4") diameter, and quite heavy. One side has an embossed wreath around the circumference with a banner containing the text "Liberty Penny". In the center is the Rice Institute academic seal and text "Tuffly & Scoggins Shoe Co." The other side is embossed with pictorial Americana images, 3 presidents (Washington, ?, and Lincoln), and the words "For Liberty and Democracy." The item originally belonged to (and presumably was donated by) William Retzer Long, class of 1933. No information is found describing whether this item may be commemorative of something specific, or just a generalized souvenir. Item is located within a box indentified with "Gift - Bill Long, 1933, Copper? Liberty Penny."
