Silver demitasse spoon with the Rice Institute academic shield engraved on the front of the handle and "Rice Institute" engraved on the back. Information cards accompanying this item describe it as having been used at the first banquet in the Commons of the first Residential Hall when it opened in 1912. The item was previously owned by Herbert Wray Wilber, class of 1916, who is described as having "waited tables" at this banquet as a Freshman in 1912. Mr. Wilber went on to (teach?) at Kent State College in Ohio and donated this item on April 17, 1963. Located in a brown felt pouch within a box identified with "Demitasse Spoon" and a synopsis of the above description.
