General

Handmade wooden snake painted green with red and yellow spots consisting of segments of wood tied together. Originally owned by Alice Golden, class of 1928. This item is described as a souvenir from the Freshman Dance of 1924. According to the 1924 Campanile, this dance was held on Feb. 21, 1924 at the Houston Turnverein club building. The write-up in the Campanile mentions that "serpentines" were among the party favors distributed at the end of the dance. This item was donated by Alice Golden on Sept. 19, 1990, one month before she died. Item is located in a box identified with "Souvenir Green wooden snake, Freshman Dance 1924", and is accompanied by a newspaper clipping of Ms. Golden's obituary.
