General
Rectangular silver-toned metal belt buckle with raised border, word "Rice" and academic shield surmounted by a spread-winged owl motif, all on a textured background. The academic shield is bordered by an oblong octagonal shape that is visually similar to the standard Rice class ring design. The back is stamped with a maker's mark "J.J. Sweeney JLV. Co". The item is well worn with no indication of date, but is almost identical to another belt buckle found in the same box that is almost certainly from ca. 1937. There is no information regarding original owner or donor. Item is located within an envelope identified with "Rice Belt Buckle, rectangular silver-toned metal with word "Rice" and academic shield surmounted by spread-winged owl motif, ca. 1930's."
