Pocket watch fob medallion. Metal Rice Institute academic seal that is enameled with blue and gray. The back is engraved with "Tuffly and Scoggins Shoes, Rice Hotel Building. Houston, Tex." "Tuffly and Scoggins Shoes" was apparently a long-time Houston shoe retailer in the early 20th century formerly named "Krupps and Tuffly." This item is accompanied by two notes inidcating that it belonged to J. T. McCants, who would be John Thomas McCants a professor of English, Business Administration and Rice University Bursar in the early years. Mention is made of him in Rice Campaniles from 1916 - 1929. Item is located in a box with "Watch Fob souvenir given by "Tuffly & Scoggins Shoes" Rice Hotel Building Hou. T. from J. T. McCants" written on it.
