Troisième Suite de Pulcinella [ Kirchmeyer 34-4], 1924
Scope and Contents
Full score.
Manuscript in the hand of the composer's first wife, Catherine Stravinsky. Biarritz, 1924.
Folio. Half vellum with cloth boards with manuscript titling to spine in the composer's hand in black ink "Pulcinella (Suite) Copie de Cath." 120, [i] pp.
With several annotations in the composer's hand detailed in a manuscript note in pencil in the hand of Soulima Stravinsky to verso of blank preliminary leaf:
- a note in the left margin of page 1 in ink "Quintetto orchestra" and "Quintetto solo"
- a note at the conclusion of the manuscript stating that the work was copied by Katia, dated "26/II/24 Biarritz"
- abbreviated indication of instrumentation in ink and numbering in red pencil to page 73
The full score of the Pulcinella Suite was first published by Russischer Musikverlag in 1924 (plate number 409). There is, however, no indication that the present manuscript was used in the preparation of the published edition.
Catherine Stravinsky was an important copyist of Stravinsky's works; her hand bears many similarities to that of her husband.
