Scope and Contents
The majority of the papers concern the case of Charles Walter Avery, a railroad employee represented by Parker vs. the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas Railway Company of Texas. Avery sued the railway company for negligence after a serious train accident in1898 caused him great injuries. Various documents relating to the case are contained in the collection, including: correspondence between Parke, witnesses, a stenographer, and Avery; summaries of petition; instructions to the jury; a list of witnesses; and Parker’s notes regarding the case.
Also included in the papers is an apparently unrelated document containing the sworn testimony of Josephine Lyons and her association with D.R. Beatty in 1913-1914.
