The diary of Augustus Ehinger begins June 15, 1846 and ends June 28, 1847. The diary chronicles Ehinger’s travels and experiences as a private in the Second Illinois Regiment during the Mexican-American War. Ehinger writes about simple daily activities as well as battles, marches, and other soldiers in his regiment. The location of the original diary is unknown.
