Files: Civil War - Davis Museums Association
Scope and Contents
Vertical files: persons, places, events, including some printed sources such as pamphlets and Confederate imprints, and typescripts.
Individual females are filed and identified under their last married names–especially important for relatives such as Florida Ann Davis McCaleb Laughlin (niece) and Lucinda Farrar Davis Davis Stamps (sister), and close connections such as Inez Routh Ellis Gordon Thompson Peckham. In a couple of cases, there are vertical files on women under their husbands' names (Inez, for instance). In the vertical files, husbands' names are sometimes first, mainly because that's usually how to find people on censuses. Always wise to check the 3x5 slips (document and reference) for all surnames.
