(drawers awaiting future newspaper additions)
Scope and Contents
Newspaper articles, some printed on thermal paper, are filed in chronological order. Many of the 3"x5" notes in the Papers of Jefferson Davis card catalog unit and 5"x8" cards refer to these prints.
Newspaper sources for items published in The Papers of Jefferson Davis, usually speeches and interviews, are in the document files.
Some, especially those relating to Davis family genealogy or to specific events in Davis' life, are now in the genealogy and vertical files.
Many newspapers represented in these files are now available in digital format, but most-- particularly those from smaller markets--are not.
Fondren Library has cataloged the Davis Project's collection of newspapers on microfilm, notably pre-1861 Mississippi papers and Richmond papers of 1861-65, likewise the collection of pre-1861 city directories on fiche.
