Scope and Contents
This logbook relates a voyage of the U.S.S. Adams from San Francisco, California around the Pacific coasts of Central and South America from December 1, 1879 to February 23, 1881 kept by one of its officers, John H. Gibbons. Within the logbook are detailed sketches of the ship’s decks as well as detailed descriptions of the ship’s technical parts, equipment, supplies, and crew. The journal entries describe daily activities aboard ship, some routine and others observatory.
