Scope and Contents note
This series includes documentation of early Rice Board of Trustees activities, revealing some of the very first attempts to shape the Institute. Correspondence, particularly with Capt. James A. Baker, Board meeting minutes, financial documents, loan documents showing how Rice Institute acted as a bank for real estate and business ventures, and Board research on charitable institutions and other universities’ and colleges’ charters and reports.
