Sir Hall Caine papers

The collection primarily consists of letters addressed to Sir Hall Caine, a prominent British novelist and secretary to Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the poet and painter. Caine lived from May 14, 1853 until August 31, 1931. Caine greatly admired Rossetti and the Pre-Raphaelite writings and much of the correspondence centers around the movement. Literary themes, especially related to events of the day, predominate the subjects of the letters.

Thomas B. Macaulay Letter

This collection contains a portion of a letter written by T.B. Macaulay to H. Bowie. The letter reads as follows: “I shall have great pleasure in sending you any bill which you may particularly wish to have. Very truly yours, T.B. Macaulay.”

This collection is composed of a manuscript book titled “Nur so—kann uns noch geholfen warden!/Humoristischer Lichtbilder – Vortrag zur 35-Jar-Feier der IIIc 1887” written by von Ronsperger and includes several mounted photographs of caricatures. The manuscript is written in German.

William Stewart Rose letter

This collection contains a letter by William Stewart Rose, British poet and translator, to Mr. Sotheby at his auction rooms near Waterloo bridge, complaining that not only was the sale of his books to take place in Whitsun but that the Stokes Park Library was being sold at the same time. He requests that catalogues be sent to various people, including Lady Caroline Lamb and Mr. Murray.
