This collection contains 242 astronomical photographic glass plates collected by Rice University's Dr. Reggie Dufour. The majority were taken at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in the Coquimbo Region of northern Chile. A small number of the plates were taken at the Kitt Peak National Observatory near Tucson Arizona.

Permission to publish material from the Reginald J. Dufour astronomical photographic glass plates must be obtained from the Woodson Research Center, Fondren Library.

The Woodson Research Center use policy is that researchers assume sole responsibility for any infringement of privacy, literary rights, copyrights, or other rights arising from their use of the archival materials. In addition to any restrictions placed by donors, certain kinds of archival materials are restricted for the life of the creator plus 50 years. Biographical / Historical

Reginald James Dufour (1948- 2020), a Louisiana native, held degrees from LSU and the University of Wisconsin at Madison and was a postdoctoral associate at the Johnson Space Center for two years before joining the Rice University faculty in 1976; he was named Professor Emeritus of Physics and Astronomy in 2016. Dufour played a key role in establishing and equipping the Rice Observatory in 2002. His research specialties included gaseous nebulae and star-forming galaxies, the Hubble Space Telescope, and imagery and spectroscopy observations with ground-based and space-borne telescopes. His numerous publications appeared in the Bulletin and Journal of the American Astronomical Society, The Astrophysical Journal, and Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, among others.
