Permission to publish from the Ralph Fales photograph collection must be obtained from Ralph Fales. The Woodson Research Center use policy is that researchers assume sole responsibility for any infringement of privacy, literary rights, copyrights, or other rights arising from their use of the archival materials. In addition to any restrictions placed by donors, certain kinds of archival materials are restricted for the life of the creator plus 50 years. These materials include, but are not limited to, student grades, transcripts, and any job applications or recommendations.

Biographical / Historical

Ralph Fales learned photography in Iceland. When he moved to Houston in the mid-1970s, he used his skills to photograph musicians and entertainers performing in Houston music venues, like The Summit, Texas Opry House, Liberty Hall, and La Bastille. These musicians range from the jazz, blues, folk, and rock music worlds, and include notable performers like: Bob Marley, Lightnin' Hopkins, B.B. King, and many others.
