Abstract

The Audrey Jones Beck Papers and Memorabilia consist of 52 linear feet of photographs, scrapbooks, artifacts, financial, legal, correspondence, real estate, property, philanthropy, public service, and Museum of Fine Arts Houston records, as well as family records. The dates range from 1860 to 2004. Of note are three clothing ensembles as well as records of artworks purchased for her personal collection that were later donated to MFAH.

Abstract:

This is a collection of twenty-seven letters, mostly handwritten and accompanied by their original envelopes. Each letter addresses the subject posed by Mrs. Kaderli when she asked for guidance in explaining death to her small daughter. A few of the letters are photocopies which replace lost originals.

Sir Hall Caine papers

Abstract:

The collection primarily consists of letters addressed to Sir Hall Caine, a prominent British novelist and secretary to Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the poet and painter. Caine lived from May 14, 1853 until August 31, 1931. Caine greatly admired Rossetti and the Pre-Raphaelite writings and much of the correspondence centers around the movement. Literary themes, especially related to events of the day, predominate the subjects of the letters.

This collection consists of an assortment of letters and papers acquired over a period of time and kept together. The collection consists of folders containing correspondence to and from historical / literary figures (Thomas Carlyle, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, Jose de San Martin, George Bernard Shaw, Henry David Thoreau, William Wordsworth, and others).
