Overview Family records of the McElroy family of Houston, Texas.

Abstract: Over one half of the collection documents cattle ranching, oil prospecting, and banking in Texas, as well as personal and family life during the Great Depression. The William Allen Haynes collection offers a view of living conditions of a prosperous Central Texas rancher and entrepreneur as well as providing information on conditions in Texas in the first part of the 19th century.

Overview This collection consists of photographs and printed materials concerning the Panama Canal and the Isthmus of Panama, collected by William E. Tragsdorf, an early U.S. civil service employee stationed at the Isthmus of Panama. Dates of materials range from 1905-1934, bulk 1905-1906.

Overview The papers of art historian William Camfield include correspondence concerning Rice University Cullinan Visiting Professors, gift of Mrs. George R. Brown for sculpture for Rice University Campus, photographs and slides, newspaper clippings and brochures of Rice exhibits and sculpture. Also included is material concerning the Rice Institute for the Arts. There are also tapes of lectures by Robert Irwin, Cullinan Lecturer.

Abstract: The papers consist of three handwritten short essays by Black, each pasted into a bound volume: “The Borderland of Dreams," “Metropolitan Conveyances” and “My Lady Jemimah…”.

Abstract: Academic and professional papers of William E. Gordon, member of the faculty of Rice University 1966-1985, now Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Space Physics and Astronomy and of Electrical and Computer Engineering, with material related to his work in developing and administering the Arecibo Ionospheric Observatory in Puerto Rico.

Abstract: The scrapbook contains a series of newspaper clippings pasted in and over pages of a day-book kept by Myron Downes. Most of the clippings deal with the career of prohibitionist William “Pussyfoot” Johnson.

Overview This collection contains 6 letters, and a postcard and envelope (letter missing) from William Goyen to Mark Bradlyn. Also included are photographs of Goyen taken in his Hollywood office and a business card from a Chinese restaurant. An unsent letter form Mark Bradlyn to Goyen is also included in the collection.

Abstract The collection contains one series of Masterson's academic papers and one series related to his wife, Orvetta Masterson. Correspondence, newsclips, photographs, certificates, Rice-related brochures and information on the Masterson Fund are included.
