Nineteenth century

This collection contains a portion of a letter written by T.B. Macaulay to H. Bowie. The letter reads as follows: “I shall have great pleasure in sending you any bill which you may particularly wish to have. Very truly yours, T.B. Macaulay.”

This collection is composed of a manuscript book titled “Nur so—kann uns noch geholfen warden!/Humoristischer Lichtbilder – Vortrag zur 35-Jar-Feier der IIIc 1887” written by von Ronsperger and includes several mounted photographs of caricatures. The manuscript is written in German.

The central item in this collection is a remarkable contemporary manuscript report of Robert Schumann's conducting at Dusseldorf, written by W. Wortmann, deputy mayor of Düsseldorf and a leading member of the administration of the Allgemeiner Musikverein (of whose orchestra and chorus Schumann had been appointed director in 1850).

This collection contains a letter by William Stewart Rose, British poet and translator, to Mr. Sotheby at his auction rooms near Waterloo bridge, complaining that not only was the sale of his books to take place in Whitsun but that the Stokes Park Library was being sold at the same time. He requests that catalogues be sent to various people, including Lady Caroline Lamb and Mr. Murray.
