Temple Freda [Bryan, TX] collection

Abstract

The Temple Freda collection is made up of documents, photographs, and news clippings concerning one of the oldest religious buildings in Bryan, Texas. Though used for different things over the years, Temple Freda remains stalwart in its support for the Jewish community in Bryan, interacting with both congregation Beth Shalom, and the A&M Hillel in College Station.

Texas City disaster records

Abstract The Texas City disaster records were created and / or maintained by survivor Robert M. Morris, of Texas City, TX. The reports, statements, images and notes describe the events of the April 16, 1947 when a French ship carrying fertilizer on Galveston Bay caught fire and exploded, causing disaster on shore at the nearby Monsanto styrene plant and other petroleum refineries, homes, warehouses, ships and buildings. At least 576 were killed and 4,000 injured, with the town being almost completely...

Texas Governors' Letters collection

Abstract:

This collection contains three letters: two from Governor James Allred of Texas to Emil Hurja of the Democratic National Committee in Washington D.C. (1935-36), and one from Gov. Lawrence Sullivan Ross of Texas to General M. Cist of Cincinnati, Ohio (1889). Subjects include thanks for gifts sent and requests for reading materials, and do not relate specifically to Texas politics.

Although it does not go into depth about any particular topic, the letter touches on the following subjects: war verse, victory of the Democrats, and Roosevelt’s future plans.

Papers of Thomas Lindsey Blayney, a founding member of the faculty of Rice Institute (now University) and Professor of German there from 1912- 1924; materials include records of his military service during World War I (1917-1919), and later appointments as president of Texas State Women’s College (1924-26) and dean of Carleton College (1926-46); also included are family memoirs, correspondence, photographs, news clippings, and memorabilia.
