Overview The Congregation Beth Israel Collection offers a glimpse into the day-to-day goings-on of Congregation Beth Israel, with documents spanning a century of the Jewish temple’s existence. Books, memorabilia, directories, programs, sermons, and church bulletins from different decades show the similarities and changes at Beth Israel as it continues to grow with the rest of Houston’s Jewish Community.

Overview The holding consists of books (both written and owned by Rabbi Schachtel), unpublished sermons and miscellaneous writings, musical compositions, correspondence, newsclippings, transparencies, photographs (both loose and contained in scrapbooks), and architectural drawings and specifications. Also included are records, cassette tapes and reels containing recordings of Rabbi Schachtel speaking on the radio, and memorabilia related to President Lyndon B.
