Postcards

Abstract Letters, diaries, scrapbooks, and notebooks belonging to various members of the Elliott family, dating from 1830-1951. The majority of the collection's letters are from the early 20th-century, though some date from the U.S. Civil War (describing life in Mississippi). Other materials describe farm life in Kansas, railroad business, attendance at Rice Institute, and the family life of the Elliotts.

Overview The collection consists of picture postcards featuring primarily buildings on the campus of Rice University in Houston, Texas. Included are scenes from as early as 1913 ranging to representations of buildings added to the campus in the 90’s. There are also scenes documenting two nationally significant historical events that took place at Rice: President John F. Kennedy’s 1961 speech calling for a manned moon landing, and the 1990 Economic Summit, which brought together eight international...
