The bulk of the collection pertains to Phyllis Gough Huffington’s research into collateral family lines and focuses from the mid-seventeenth century to the mid-twentieth century.

Many of these letters are courtship letters to Wilson's future wife, Mary Grier, containing information on the aspirations and attitudes of people in South Carolina whose wealth was based on the stolen labor of enslaved people during the U.S. Civil War period. Wilson also relays information about hospitals, medicine, schools, cemteries, camp life and the military, and the issue of conscription.

Abstract: This is a handwritten letter dated May 13, 1743 and signed by J. H. Bastide. The letter is addressed to an "My Lord Duke." Bastide, self-described as "the second Lieutenant in General Cornwallis's regiment," states that he has received advice that he is to be exchanged from his regiment to one in Nova Scotia.
