Max Freund "Houston Journal" and related editorial papers

Abstract This collection contains the correspondence, photos, newsclippings, proofs, and manuscripts of Max Freund, Professor Emeritus of Rice University. The papers relate for the most part to Freund's works, especially Gustav Dresel's Houston Journal, which he edited and translated. The Pallas Athene Literary Society (PALS) was formed in 1919 when the Elizabeth Baldwin Literary Society (EBLS) split and was an active organization at Rice until 1966 when it disbanded. The records consist of a ledger book containing minutes of the society’s meetings (September 23, 1924 – May 14, 1929), newspaper clippings pertaining to various members and alumnae, and several programs and pamphlets of the society’s activities.
