John Robert Anderson manuscript of "The Old Adam"

Abstract

This collection contains a xerox copy of the typescript of "The Old Adam," an unpublished novel called with a West Texas setting written by John Anderson. Anderson, a 1976 graduate of Rice University, wrote the novel while pursuing a Ph.D. at Yale University. At the time this typescript was accessioned (1983), Anderson was a professor at Pennsylvania University; the novel was unpublished.

This collection contains the typescript and galley proofs of the book "The Golden Chair", winner of the Southwest Literary Award. It was published by Elsevier Press in 1954. Mr. Arnold is a former student of Rice University where he was editor of the student newspaper the "Thresher" and president of the Writers Club. He was also Rice correspondent for the "Houston Chronicle."
