Letters to James Korges

Abstract: The collection consists of letters written to James Korges in his capacity as editor of ">Critique: Studies in Modern Fiction" by such literary figures as Erskine Caldwell, Dickey, Caroline Gordon, William Goyen, Frederick Manfred, Brian Moore, Anais Nin, Joyce Carol Oates, Ramsey, Tate, and Yvor Winters. Also included are a 1926 Theodore Dreiser letter and a letter written in 1953 by Sean O'Casey to Korges, then a senior at Rice University and editor of the student newspaper, "The Thresher."

Libby and Edward Marvins Papers

Overview This collection contains documents and memorabilia donated by Libby and Edward Marvins related to their time as congregants at Emanu El as well as an oral history conducted with Libby Marvins by staff with the Houston Jewish History Archive in 2018. Libby Prison Inmate Letter

Abstract: Letter written during the Civil War by an anonymous Union Army prisoner- of-war, dated December18, 1864, and addressed from Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia, to United States Senator William Wright of New Jersey, describing his worsening health while held in close confinement in the prison as hostage for a Confederate officer imprisoned in West Virginia, and urging the senator to intercede on his behalf to secure his exchange and release.

Major Winslow F. Sanderson Papers

Overview This collection consists of letters and documents relating to the life and death of Major Winslow (W.F.) Sanderson. Many of the documents concern the death of Major Sanderson, but two of the letters were written by him from Mexico in 1847. Other correspondence relates to his widow succeeding in securing a military pension, and two U.S. House of Representatives bills concerning the pension.
