Biographical / Historical

The Center for Biological and Environmental Nanotechnology at Rice was founded by Dr. Kristen Kulinowski in September 2001, with the goal to discover and develop nanomaterials that enable new medical and environmental technologies. The center's undergraduate and graduate research is centered on three themes: nanoscience, bioengineering and nanoenvironmental studies. In addition to research, CBEN conducts trainings for high school teachers and summer enrichment programs for high school students. Their focus on secondary educational outreach is an effort to develop early interests in the nanosciences and bring nanotechnology to the forefront of scientific study in the future.

The center is funded by the National Science Foundation, Rice University, and various industrial partners.
