Scope and Contents

Clark P. Read's academic papers include an extensive amount of correspondence, organized by name of recipient and sender,during his time at UCLA and Johns Hopkins University, 1954 to 1959. The collection also includes his personal research notes and lab data between the years 1952 and 1971. Topics covered in his research notes include, but are not limited to, his work in parasitology and worms. The collection also includes some of Read's collected publications.

Biographical / Historical

Clark P. Read was born February 4, 1921 in Fort Worth Texas. He recieved his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. from Rice University and served as Assistant Professor of Zoology from University of California Los Angeles and Associate Professor of Parasitology at John Hopkins University before returning to serve as Professor of Biology at Rice in 1959. Dr. Read served as Chair of the Biology Department at Rice from 1964 to 1969 and 1972 to 1974. In 1966 Read served on the Board of Trustees of the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA. He also was a epidemiology professor at the Baylor School of Medicine from 1961 to 1965. He was renown for his research in parasitology, which can be seen in his research notes and correspondence during his time at UCLA. Dr. Read died when he was 52 years old on December 23, 1973.
