Scope and Contents Note

This collection consists of nine series, which give a background of how the Centennial Celebration was planned and promoted. More specifically, there are invitations and fliers about events, congratulatory greetings from the U.S. government, corporations, and other universities, as well as memorabilia given out at events. Series VI and Series VII give an insight into how the Centennial Celebration Director and Specialist planned events that lead up to and included the Centennial Celebration.

Biographical/Historical note

While the university's Centennial occurred on October 12, 2012, 100 years to the day of the formal opening of the Rice Institute, the Centennial Celebration was a much larger event years in the making. The celebration of Rice's Centennial offically began on Octoer 12, 2010 with Rice Day. From there, the Centennial Commission and planners put on events that not only promoted the upcoming Centennial but also brought attention to Rice and its accomplishments.
