Biographical / Historical

This collection brings together interviews on audio cassettes and videotape about Rice University that were conducted between 1990 and 1995. The earliest is from an alumna’s point of view. The majority are the outcome of the Oral History Project, planned by Dr. John Boles, Mr. Hank Hudspeth, Dr. Mary McIntire, and Ms. Nancy Boothe, and initiated in 1993. The goal of the initial phase of the project was to augment Rice University’s documentary history with recorded interviews of the three then former presidents still living, Pitzer, Hackerman, and Rupp. These interviews were conducted by Dr. John Boles and Dr. Louis Marchiafava. The second phase, undertaken in 1995, consists of videotaped interviews conducted by Dr. Harold Hyman of the three former presidents and also of a Rice student, Isaac Sanders, and two Rice faculty members, Dr. Franz Brotzen and Dr. William Gordon.
