Biographical Note

Sandra Lord is a Certified Professional Guide, writer, researcher, trainer and vocational historian and has written, edited, and performed research for over 100 articles and books. She is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. In July 1988 she began offering guided walking tours for individuals, children’s groups, seniors’ groups, Leisure Learning Unlimited, and other organizations and has researched and designed hundreds of itineraries for walking and step-on tours and conducted training and educational programs for individuals interested in learning more about Houston. She co-founded the Professional Tour Guide Association of Houston, which meets monthly to determine the educational and experiential requirements necessary for the designation "Certified Professional Guide" in Houston.

The Discover Houston Tours Records contain information about tours Lord gave around Houston, supplemental material for tour content (including newspaper clippings, brochures, and notes), general information about leading tours, and business documents of her tour company.

Acquisition Information

The materials were given to Woodson Research Center by Sandra Lord in 2008, 2012, 2013, and 2019.
