Scope and Contents

This collection contains the papers of Rolland Bradley, Texas State legislator. The collection includes a bound manuscript copy of Bradley’s master’s thesis for the University of Texas on proportional representation in the United States. Also included are a manuscript copy of chapters 1-14, the introduction, and foreword by Barnes from his book "Our Ultimate Faith or the Gospel of Ethical Theism as Lived by the Complete Man" in which he puts forward the idea that religion is the most effective way to solve man’s faults and problems. The collection also consists of a copy of a speech on “Americanism” and the need to guard liberty, and a one franc note issued later than 1914 by the chambre de commerce de Nantes to assist in the military crises.

Biographical / Historical

Rolland Bradley was born in 1896 in Michigan. He moved to Texas and attended the University of Texas at Austin where he earned his Master’s degree. He then moved to Houston, TX and became a lawyer and eventually a member of the Texas State House of Representatives, 19th district, in 1929. He was also a Texas delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1944. Bradley died in 1967.
