Scope and contents

Letter written from American naval officer and historian A.T. Mahan to Gen. James Wilson regarding the publication of Mahan’s biography of Farragut. Admiral David Glasgow Farragut (1801-1870), an American naval officer who served during the U.S. Civil War, is quoted as having said at the Battle of Mobile Bay, “…Damn the torpedoes … full speed ahead!”
