Permission to publish from the H. Russell Pitman collection must be obtained from Woodson Research Center. The Woodson Research Center use policy is that researchers assume sole responsibility for any infringement of privacy, literary rights, copyrights, or other rights arising from their use of the archival materials. In addition to any restrictions placed by donors, certain kinds of archival materials are restricted for the life of the creator plus 50 years. These materials include, but are not limited to, student grades, transcripts, and any job applications or recommendations.

Biographical / Historical

Russ Pitman graduated from Rice in 1958 with a degree in business administration and economics, and became Rice's Chief Accountant in 1960. From 1969 to 1976 he was Assistant to the President (Norman Hackerman) and from 1976 to 1980 he was Manager of Campus Business Affairs. The Humanities Building Tower is named in honor of his parents, Morris R. and Mavis C. Pitman. In addition to Pitman's donations for the Humanities Tower, he has also funded multiple fellowships, awards, and prizes.
