Permission to publish material from the Hoffman/Karchmer Family Papers must be obtained from the Woodson Research Center, Fondren Library. The Woodson Research Center use policy is that researchers assume sole responsibility for any infringement of privacy, literary rights, copyrights, or other rights arising from their use of the archival materials. In addition to any restrictions placed by donors, certain kinds of archival materials are restricted for the life of the creator plus 50 years. Biographical / Historical

Esther Hafter Karchmer and Jean Herschel Karchmer, the parents of Kerry Hoffman, were born in Dallas, Texas. They both graduated from Southern Methodist University and were the first in their families to go to college. After graduation, Esther was a teacher and Jean was a chemist.

Kerry Hoffman was born in Dallas in 1941 and grew up in Baytown, Texas, where her father worked for Humble Oil. Her family belonged to the synagogue in Baytown and was active in the Jewish community. They moved to Houston when Kerry was nine and lived near Old Spanish Trail and Alameda Drive. Kerry went to Southland Elementary, Johnson Junior High, and San Jacinto High School. In 1960, she attended the University of Texas in Austin and joined Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority. She graduated in 1964 and married Jerry Hoffman, a New York City native, in 1966. Kerry and Jerry have 3 children—Lonny, Jenny and Karmi, who are all married and have their own children.
