Biographical / Historical

Jacob Shniderson was born in Poland and emigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in 1888. He married his wife, Rose, in 1890, and they moved to Houston. They had four children — Abe, Frank, Benjamin, and Rebecca. Jacob was interred at Beth Yeshurun cemetery.

Abe Shniderson was born in 1909 in Houston, Texas. When Abe was 9, he quit school to support his mother by selling newspapers. For the rest of his life, he worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad Company as a clerk. He died in 1974.

Abe married his wife, Rose, in 1934. Rose Dora Green was born in 1909 in Dallas, Texas. She was the daughter of Israel Green and one of nine children. Abe and Rose’s child, Stan Shniderson, was born in Dallas in 1937. The family lived on Truxillo Street in South Central Houston and then on Isabella Street. Later, they moved to West University and later to Upper Kirby. They belonged to Beth Jacob Synagogue, where Stan had his bar mitzvah and confirmation.

Stan attended San Jacinto High School and graduated in 1955. He attended the University of Texas at Austin from 1955 to 1961, and was a member of Tau Delta Phi. He married Mary Lou Levy at the Shamrock Hotel on March 20, 1961. Stan and Mary had three children, Mark, Robert, and Jason. Stan and Mary raised their kids at Beth Israel. Today, Stan is a chemical engineer.
