Biographical / Historical

Richard F. Haines, PhD, was an American psychologist working for NASA and various other research organizations between 1967 and 1988. Since the 1980s Haines became actively involved into the study of UFO phenomena and after retirement he dedicated most of his time to this topic. During the late 1980s he also participated in the study of parapsychology in collaboration with Dr. Edwin C. May and Stanford Research Institute. However, Haines' biggest passion was a study of UFO cases that involved pilots of civil and military aircrafts. In 1999, a National Aviation Reporting Center on Anomalous Phenomena (NARCAP) was created to accumulate such reports, and Haines assumed a position of a chief scientist for the organization.
