Biographical / Historical

The Rice Owls baseball team represents Rice University in the NCAA Division I Conference USA, playing its home games at Reckling Park on the Rice campus in Houston, Texas. In the past, the team participated in the Southwest Conference and the Western Atlantic Conference--in which the team won nine regular season titles from 1997 to 2005. The team has participated in every tournament since 1995, led by head coach Wayne Graham, whose 953 victories over 21 seasons make him both the most successful and longest-tenured coach in Rice history.

In 2003, when many of the tapes were recorded, the Rice baseball team won the national championship, the first national title that Rice had ever won.

Coached by Cristy McKinney, the Rice Owls women’s basketball team competes in the NCAA Division I Conference USA, and plays home games at Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston, Texas.

The Rice Owls Football team plays in the NCAA Division I college football Conference USA, led by head coach Ken Hatfield. Home games are played at Rice Stadium, built in 1950.
