07. Asian American community

The collection consists of the scans of Mr. Hong's scrapbook, which includes 109 photos of community events. There are photos of Explorer Scouts at their air base, meetings of the American Legion, American-Chinese post no. 596, Houston Tx, VA dinners, American Legion trip to Washington, DC., Veteran's Day parade, City of Houston Proclamation Day, and the Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Celebration.

The Bapsi Sidhwa papers comprise the books, drafts, notes, and personal papers of the acclaimed American-Pakistani author Bapsi Sidhwa. Known for her captivating novels exploring mainly women’s issues in the Indian subcontinent, Bapsi has made her mark with her deeply insightful prose and outspoken voice.

One box containing Houston artist Anthony Pabillano's exhibition programs, flyers, and original "Mini Bayong, No. 2" handwoven paper bag made by Pabillano documents some of his works between 2019-2022.

The Luis Q. Lacar sociology and social anthropology papers include Lacar's CV, academic records, correspondence, awards reflecting his career. Lacar was active with Filipino-American heritage groups nationally in the United States.

The Gee Family Association (GFA) is an organization of generations of Gees and their extended families. This collection includes print materials such as event flyers and programs, genealogies, and circa 20 photographs, primarily regarding the activities of the Gee Family Association in Houston, Texas.

Taiwanese-American artist Naomi Kuo was raised in Houston, Texas, and explores the genres of zines, photography, and painting.

Possibly the first Filipino TV show in Houston, “Halo Halo TV” now exists as a web series, “Halo Halo Houston”--both focusing on Filipinx culture within the Houston Metropolitan area. Donated by the producer of the show, Cybil Pallugna-Saenz, this collection contains original recordings for the show, which made great strides of Filipino media representation in the early 2000s.

This collection includes memorabilia, photographs, crystal awards, correspondence, newsclippings, and other publications.

The collection contains 4 t-shirts with the logo of the organization.

The collection contains a booklet celebrating 40 years of friendship and community service by the Ilocano Club of Metro Houston. More items may be donated in the future.
