Alexander Hobbs Diary and Bible

Abstract: The Hobbs diary records his experiences as a volunteer recruit in New England, his participation in the Battle of Galveston, and his life as a prisoner in Houston, 1862-1863.

Alexander N. Shipley Military Commissions

Abstract: Five commissions recording the military promotions of Alexander N. Shipley from 2nd Lieutenant (1858) to Brevet Lieutenant Colonel (1866), and containing either authentic or stamped signatures of U. S. Presidents (James Buchanan, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson); also included is a smaller document relating to Shipley’s promotion to Brevet Lieutenant Colonel .

Allan Cunningham papers

Abstract: The bulk of this collection is comprised of correspondence to and from art historian Allan Cunningham. The correspondence largley concerns matters connected with Cunningham's numerous publishing projects, including his Lives of the Most Eminent British Painters, Sculptors, and Architects, which appeared between 1829 and 1833. Also included in the collection are three Mss. poems--one perhaps by the Rev. J. Judkins and two by Cunningham.

Overview This collection contains Allan H. Stevenson’s research of early paper-making and printing. Included in the collection are samples of early watermarked paper, facsimiles of watermarks, correspondence and manuscript notes by Stevenson, and reviews of publications. Also included are: proof copies of papers by Stevenson and other scholars, miscellaneous printed material on the subject of printing, conferences and exhibitions, and presentations from other scholars.

American Defense Group records

The Group consisted largely of professors from three California institutions who were interested in assisting the American war effort by reading foreign-language domestic publications and reporting editorial comments to U.S. Naval Intelligence.

American Institute of Architects Houston (AIA Houston) oral history interview collection
