Abstract: The collection consists of 3 folders of correspondence dating from 1803-1810, between British Admiral Sir John Thomas Duckworth as Naval Commander-in-Chief at Jamaica and Vice-Admiral Charles Stirling (1760-1833), Resident Commissioner at Jamaica relating to repairs to ships, stores, defenses and surveys.

Abstract Letter written from American naval officer and historian A.T. Mahan to Gen. James Wilson regarding the publication of Mahan’s biography of Admiral James Glasgow Farragut.

Overview The account book includes individual wages for officers and crews; allowances for victuals; prices of provisions to be paid to and by the Purser; various allowances and expense lists; lists of French, Dutch and Algiers fleets, including ship names and guns; as well as lists of the major Royal Navy commands, the red, white, and blue squadrons, with ships assigned to each, their commanders, guns, and names of flag officers commanding.

Abstract: The papers include investigative reports, correspondence, and ship and crew information in relation to the grounding of the S.S. Schroon while helping the S.S. West Hematite. The S.S. Schroon was an American sea-going vessel invovled in cargo transport.

Abstract: Logbook of the British warship H.M.S. Princess Royal kept by Charles LeStrange, R.N. [Royal Navy] of a voyage (1864-1866) from Plymouth to Shanghai and Yokohama, by way of Madeira, Sierra Leone, Cape of Good Hope, Trincomalie, Singapore, and Bangkok.

Overview The diary kept by First Lieutenant John Duff Markland includes an itinerary of the voyage of the HMS Albion in the East Indies 1803-1805, and several pages of poetry, but is primarily a series of sketches of ships, shore views, many in color, including drawings of flowers.

Abstract: The collection consists of eight letters written to Sir George Parker, Esquire, from John Jervis, Admiral Lord St. Vincent. All letters refer to personal business and financial affairs.

Overview This is a 280-page Seaman's Journal dating from the early 19th century, inscribed with 169 pages of handwritten notes regarding weather conditions, location, course, and events on board the ships Janus, Dawn and Glide on three separate voyages, each originating from or arriving at Massachusetts.

Scope and Contents Approximately 130 pages. The first 80 pages are in Portuguese and cover voyages from Fayal in the Azores to Riga and back to Lisbon, with an additional trip from Fayal to St. Petersburg. The remainder is in English and covers a voyage from Boston to Fayal.
