Transcription of text on item: “Civitatis Episcopalis othenarum sive Otthoniae, Vt Vulgo digitur, Fioniae, Insularum Daniae Regni Amoe Nissimae Ferti lissimaeque Metropolis secundum situm & Figuram quam Hoc Seculo Habet, Delineatio,. Anno Partae per Unicum Mediatorem XPM, Salutis. MDLXXXIII Genere, virtutibus, famaque illustri Henrico Ranzouio, Imperiati et Repio Dunico, consifiario,; Ducatuumque Slesvici, Holsatiae et Dithmarsiae gubernatore, summorum et optimor conatuum promotore impensas suppeditante, 1598”

This item appears to be the same as the item offered at “Antiquariat Reinhold Berg”, Germany ( “Original copper-engraving, hand colored in wash, published 1598 in volume V in the town book 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' by Braun and Hogenberg. The entire series of the 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' comprised six volumes and was published and printed from 1572 towards 1619. A beautiful bird's eye view of Odense, capital of Fionia in Denmark. This view shows us the city of Odense detailed engraved with streets, houses, churches, places and its surrounding with the adjacent Baltic Sea with sailing ships in the water. At the bottom we find a table of explanations listing important buildings of the city. This view was published 1598 in volume V of Braun and Hogenberg's 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum'.” (description excerpted from “” accessed Feb. 22, 2010)
