Mary Lovett Diary, 1916
Scope and Content
Family correspondence, photographs, travel and community involvement records, business information, newsclippings, academic realia and genealogies for the Edgar Odell Lovett family and related families such as the Hale and Wicks families. In addition to providing detailed family history, this material documents the close administrative and philanthropic relationship of the Lovetts and others primarily to Rice Institute, and to a lesser degree the Art League of Houston and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts.
Extensive family correspondence and photographs form over half of the collection. Three boxes of postcards, photographs, guidebooks and more related to the World Tour (1908-1909) taken by E.O. and Mary Lovett to gather ideas for the formation of Rice Institute are also of particular interest.
