1 title page with inscription on reverse and 16 pp. in blue ink, numbered in red ballpoint and with scarce red ballpoint and pencil annotations. On music paper from a spiral note- book, folio (350 x 270 mm).
The cover of the notebook sports the title: La courte paille. Maurice Carême, Francis Poulenc. 1960. An original blue and red pencil drawing by Jean Cocteau was pasted on the reverse of the cover. It sports an inscription from Coc- teau to Poulenc: « 17 avril. Cher Francis, bonne chance, je présume que tu dois être déjà loin dans notre drame et je t’embrasse. Jean » [April 17th. Dear Francis, good luck. I think that you are already deep in our drama, and send you a kiss. Jean]
On its title page, the work itself is dedicated to Denise Duval and her son Richard Schilling. The reverse sports the following inscription, signed « Poupoule » and dated [19]60 : « To the sunshine of my heart and of my music. To Denise, tenderly » [To the sunshine of my heart and of my music. To Denise, tenderly]. Provenance : Denise Duval (inscription) – by de- scent to the present owner.
