Scope and Contents
Contains Contemporary Arts Association bylaws and charter; correspondence; lists of board members; policy statements; and meeting minutes and reports of the full board and its various committees. The lists of board members are located at the end of the series in a separate archives box.
The governing board of the Contemporary Arts Association was formed in 1948. The board changed its name from Board of Directors to Board of Trustees in September 1971.
Prominent subjects which appear in these records include bylaw revisions (made in 1952, 1964, 1973, 1975); the CAA charter and resolution of purpose and organization (1948); various museum director searches for the years 1964-65, 1966, and 1973-74; and the selection of an architect for the present CAM building (1968-69).
Some records were received severely water damaged. In some cases these items were replaced with photocopies. Other water damaged materials await professional conservation treatment.
